The best source for this type of plumber is a general contractor. The contractor sees the plumber's work before it's covered up; you don't get that opportunity. In addition, your contractor knows the telltale signs of quality work that you might miss, like clean solder joints, crisp 90-degree angles at joints and clean, properly sized holes in joists, studs, and floors.
Certification: Certifications are not requirements, but they do help plumbers regarding career advancement. Once the plumber has completed the apprenticeship and has successfully gotten their license, they will be eligible to sit for the certification exams. There are a few different certifications available to plumbers. Through the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors Association, in partnership with Green Plumbers USA, there is a training and certification program available for water and energy efficient technologies. With the way the environment is going green, this certification is a good idea for plumbers to consider. There is also the National Inspection Testing Certification(NITC) available to Journeymen Plumbers. The NITC also offers Journey and Master Plumber level certifications for plumbing codes and a Mastery certification exam for plumbers with over five years experience. There are fees involved, and they vary depending on the exam.

I have no problem paying for any service I receive but when Allied Reddi-Rooter came into my home and immediately tell me and them tell me it would cost me 350.00 for them to install a new Rheem water heater (his recommendation) that cost 409.00 I have a problem. If the cost is exactly how Home Advisor indicates then he’s charging 350.00an hour. I did my homework checked with other plumbers and it. Would not take an hour to remove old and install the new water heater. Thank Goodness I did my research won’t be using their services and I will be letting others know what happen to me. Shame on you Allied
"Brent replaced the kitchen faucet, answered my questions. With this good experience, I called them for a leak I found later near the washer. Gary examined the total water system and how each piece related to the other, pointed out a couple of things that weren't up to code, checked the water pressure. It was more than what I expected, but I feel good about the safety and prevention measures taken. Gary was knowledgeable and explained things well. We received a good estimate up front."
In the United Kingdom the professional body is the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (educational charity status) and it is true that the trade still remains virtually ungoverned; there are no systems in place to monitor or control the activities of unqualified plumbers or those home owners who choose to undertake installation and maintenance works themselves, despite the health and safety issues which arise from such works when they are undertaken incorrectly; see Health Aspects of Plumbing (HAP) published jointly by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Plumbing Council (WPC). WPC has subsequently appointed a representative to the World Health Organization to take forward various projects related to Health Aspects of Plumbing.
Here’s a little fact: For every three skilled trade workers leaving their industry, there is only one skilled trade worker entering it. This fact holds true for the plumbing industry, as well. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, the employment outlook for skilled plumbers is expected to grow 16 percent through 2026. The average job employment outlook is around 5%-7% which means plumbing is growing much faster than average.
Drain Rescue is definitely true to it's name. My drain was completely blocked and not at all functional when I called them. They asked if I needed someone to come out the same day (it was evening). I declined since it wasn't really an emergency, just a huge inconvenience. The plumber came out right on the time the next morning and had my drain fixed in about 30 minutes. The service was excellent and the price was reasonable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a plumber.
Plumbing can be an exceptionally lucrative career for those in the field, not excluding women. And now especially because more contractors are eager to train women in plumbing. It’s not that plumbing companies don’t want women to work for them, in fact, quite the opposite. Women just don’t seem to be packing in to learn the male-dominated trade. The fact is, women can find an excellent, well-paying career as a plumber just as easily as men, if not more so.
Here is an odd problem that I cannot figure out. I am handy with electrical stuff, but this one has me stumped. My small kitchen appliances all work on a single circuit, with 5 outlets. One of those outlets has a 20Amp breaker built into it with a test and resent button (I never understood what the test button is for). I only have a toaster, a floor lamp and occasionally a coffee grinder plugged into the circuit. Suddenly, none of the outlets work. Nothing new, no new appliances, the whole circuit went dead. I noticed when I trigger the reset button, there is an immediate click and it goes out again. I have tripped and reset the main breaker on the circuit board in the garage, nothing. Power gets to the outlet, but it doesn't work and there is no electricity in any of the 5. I un plugged everything. Reset the breaker on the outlet. It clicked again immediately, still no electricity. I changed out the outlet, with a new one with breaker built in which I bought today at Home Depot. Same problem. I tested for electricity, the outlet with the built in breaker receives 120v electricity coming in, but it always seems to be shorted out and does not send it out. I assume that all of the 5 outlets are connected inline, so thinking that if I went one by one, I'd be able to find a short. I opened all of the boxes, checked everything and all looks clean, new, no problems. I completely disconnected the two outlets that are closest to the main one with thereset button and nothing.Help
I think it is rather rude and a bit dishonest for people to not divulge their total fees upfront, an of course we should know to ask. But the normal person wouldn't know the questions to ask until they are burnt once like this, and then there still could be costs for walking up stairs or charge another service call if they need to go somewhere to use the bathroom and come back. THAT ISN'T A QUESTION I WOULD THINK TO ASK.
Flexible plastic tubing can be used to circulate hot water below your home’s flooring. This is known as hydronic heating. The water/liquid is stored in a boiler and pushed into a plumbing manifold so that it can be properly circulated throughout your home floors as designed. While this is a very beneficial way to radiate heat through your floors during colder seasons, hydronic heating can develop some serious problems that require plumbing repair.

Plastic pipe is in wide use for domestic water supply and drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe. Principal types include: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was produced experimentally in the 19th century but did not become practical to manufacture until 1926, when Waldo Semon of BF Goodrich Co. developed a method to plasticize PVC, making it easier to process. PVC pipe began to be manufactured in the 1940s and was in wide use for Drain-Waste-Vent piping during the reconstruction of Germany and Japan following WWII. In the 1950s, plastics manufacturers in Western Europe and Japan began producing acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) pipe. The method for producing cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) was also developed in the 1950s. Plastic supply pipes have become increasingly common, with a variety of materials and fittings employed.

Wooden pipes were used in London and elsewhere during the 16th and 17th centuries. The pipes were hollowed-out logs, which were tapered at the end with a small hole in which the water would pass through. The multiple pipes were then sealed together with hot animal fat. They were often used in Philadelphia, Boston, and Montreal in the 1800s, and built-up wooden tubes were widely used in the USA during the 20th century. These pipes, used in place of corrugated iron or reinforced concrete pipes, were made of sections cut from short lengths of wood. Locking of adjacent rings with hardwood dowel pins produced a flexible structure. About 100,000 feet of these wooden pipes were installed during WW2 in drainage culverts, storm sewers and conduits, under highways and at army camps, naval stations, airfields and ordnance plants.
